The design of the Midland Hotel captures the dynamic interplay of light and shadow, drawing inspiration from the transformative glow of golden hour in the Chicago Loop. Reimagining its Beaux-Arts heritage, the hotel blends classic details with sleek, minimalist forms to create a timeless, elegant retreat for both business travelers and locals. A tonal palette, rich woods, and clean lines craft a serene yet vibrant atmosphere, balancing moments of vitality with spaces of quiet reflection. Public areas are envisioned as versatile, convivial spaces that celebrate historic character while adding contemporary drama. Guest rooms embrace a modern, tailored minimalism designed to foster both rejuvenation and productivity. Overall, the design invites guests into a setting where they can seamlessly work, connect, celebrate, and unwind within a luminous and inspiring environment.

Collaborating closely with the interior design team and the architect of record on the conversion of an existing hotel in a historic building. Together, we navigated a wide range of complex room types and configurations, balancing the building’s original character with the needs of a modern hospitality experience. This highly detailed process required creative problem-solving and careful coordination to bring a cohesive and thoughtful design to life.
